There has been much rumour concerning the opening date. We had hoped that 21 November was to be the date. Everything has progressed well. The program for delivery of important items has occurred right on time by some miracle and some very good planning.
However one major component seemingly beyond anybody’s control has proven to be BT Openreach. In spite of this being one of the first applications completed as long ago as August 2017 it is only in the last week that we have a date for commencement of road works to enable the supply to be brought to the building. Unfortunately that date has passed without any road works.
We have already had to extend because of this uncertainty our original opening date to 5 December. It is now apparent that the earliest date for opening will now be 15.1.2018. We wanted to ensure good Post office service during the build up for Christmas as well and as many will know Rock Post Office will now close on 30
Unfortunately the post office systems require closure of the old office to occur some 10 days prior to the opening date in the new premises. Such things as training and engineering issues which can only occur during that period.
We are nearly there and we must be very grateful for the tremendous support that has occurred since our appeal was launched in July this year. This has enabled such rapid progress of the project and we are most grateful to our local builders and trades for their support. The funds raised from within our community has as usual been quite staggering and will enable us to provide for the community a first class resource well into the future and that was always our prime motive.
Our Christmas fair/bazaar on 25th November @ 10am – 12 noon is offering free entry as a thank you from the Perceval for your support. The fair will also include a “Silent Auction”with some good items promised for the Auction. Sadly the Entertainers show had to be postponed due to a serious road accident to Rob Badely one of the stars. We are delighted that he’s making a great recovery and a new date in the Spring has been promised.
We also hope to commence a Memory Cafe in the summer next year with the help of the Memory team in Wadebridge.
Once again our committee wishes to express their sincere thanks for the financial and practical support they have received from the local community and beyond. Particular thanks are extended to the anonymous donors who have met the cost of replacing the bench in front of the Perceval Institute.
